This week you were introduced to the study of religions. The materials and discussion focused on the different rules, roles, and nuances present in mainstream and indigenous religions. This assignment allows you to demonstrate how effectively you can compare the academic study of religion to the devotional practice of religion.
Consider the various religious traditions described in this week’s readings and the examples of practices and beliefs within those religions.
Prepare a 12 to 13 slide presentation using Microsoft® PowerPoint® or another presentation format that addresses the following questions. Use bullet points and images or graphics to illustrate your main points with some explanation on main slide or speaker nots.
What is essential in the practices and beliefs for a tradition to be called a religion? Illustrate your points by referring to the commonalities of at least 2 religions.
What is the history and origin/catalyst of each of the 2 religions you chose?
What is the difference between devotional study and academic study of a faith?
What are you looking forward to exploring in the study of religion throughout this course? Please explain.
Use the Rubric as the main guideline to what is expected and please make sure you incorporate ‘your opinion’ on issues at times. Any presentation lacking this will lose 10 points total. . Try to avoid just using bullets of information. Use speaker notes if you have to. But just bullets of information and no description and opinion offered on some of them or a conclusion will lose points.
Please note, these four bullets are main points. Use the Rubric and what is expected overall as what is necessary to earn a top score!
