The 21st century is the information age of technology. Technological advances are happening quickly, and it is difficult to keep up with the newest gadgets. Technology in phones, laptops, vehicles, and security can become obsolete after only a year or two. Innovative technologies can also be used to protect the critical infrastructure of the United States.

In many instances, technology replaces human presence. For example, instead of stationing a guard to monitor an access point to a secure facility, the guard is replaced with cameras and biotechnology, to either grant or deny access to the facility. Technology is becoming the “eyes and ears” of protective security. Instead of using a person to audit the financial records of companies that do business with the government, computer programs can do it. Technology uses clouds to store personal and national security information. Technology can also be used to test the strength of pre-existing concrete that was used to build interstate overpasses, bridges, and nuclear power plants.
