Response Requirements -Respond to the prompt above in a minimum of 175 words. -Respond to 2 replies to classmates below. You will agree or disagree and state why. 50 words each response below.1) Combating cybercrime is a huge task and we as society need to work together to fight it, for example international collaboration is crucial because cybercrime is a global issue. The international community needs to work together to exchange information, and make sure cyber laws and regulations are the same around the world to punish hackers. Educating the public is also important because many people are not aware of phishing scams and creating secure/strong passwords for their online accounts. Employers should also provide their employees with cybersecurity awareness trainings to prevent data breaches and to continue adhering to security policies. In my current job, we have a yearly mandatory training where we learn about phishing scams, how to create secure passwords and be cautious about how to share company information. It’s important to be educated about cyberthreats and know that they come in many forms. Most people think of cyberthreats of someone just stealing their identity but is more than that, recognizing cybercrime is the first step to protect our data and of course ourselves from being potential victims of hackers.
2)Society combats cybercrime through prevention, detection, mitigation, and investigation. Technology has changed the landscape of when, where, and how crimes are committed and executed. Law enforcement agencies focus on preventing cybercrime through community awareness and disruption by maintaining collaborative work with local business partnerships.
Promoting awareness of cybercrime within the organization is vital as it helps employees stay safe and protects the organization. Many agencies are transitioning to web-based or online to keep transparent, but it can pose many risks if employees are unaware of cyber safety. More training and professional development for staff regarding risk, safety, and breach can help prevent clicking on the link(s) that may seem suspicious. When my previous workplace transitioned to web-based, they were hacked, and many computers were compromised. Staff were delayed in their assignment because of the breach in security that caused a backlog of many hours of work. The more staff are aware of cybercrime and how to report them, the more precautions they will be.
If I were in a leadership role for a criminal justice organization, I would encourage my staff to follow the organizational policies and procedures and ensure they align with local, state, and federal policies and procedures. As long as the agency and team stay within its jurisdiction and follow all policies and procedures, they should not have anything to worry about. Enforcing policies and procedures to ensure that employees are aware of cybercrime and educating them helps prevent cyber threats.
