2. Complete the assigned readings and watch any assigned videos.
3. Each of you has been assigned to a Group. Please check under the Groups link to see your assigned group. Your group will be used for Group Discussion of the unit’s Individual Discovery Questions. Membership will change weekly; if you don’t see a group assignment, please notify the instructor immediately.
4. By the deadline, post your answer (of at least 500 words) to the discovery question to your Unit 7 Group Discussion Board. Access the groups through the “Groups” link. Locate your Unit 7 Group and select its link. Select the link “Group Discussion Board.” Finally, select your group discussion board and create a thread to post your assignment.
Partial points will be deducted if:
Post is late, grammatically incorrect or includes misspelling
Citations do not use APA format correctly
Content is not well organized, has poor logical flow or does not reference course materials and concepts (is off topic)
Discovery Question – for discussion board post
This week we explored a variety of ideas for health care leadership. Choose 1 of the discovery questions below and post your response to the discussion board.
DQ1: Accelerating – Do you think the Cleveland Clinic case is an example of Kotter’s idea for accelerating? Describe how/in what ways their focus on patient experience case meets or does not meet Kotter’s description?
DQ2: Leadership – Is Dr. Schein’s concept of helping and leadership evident in the Cleveland Clinic example of Chief Patient Experience Officer? Do you see other leadership styles evident in the case? Describe the evidence you see of Cleveland Clinic applying any of the leadership styles we have discussed this week. If you do not see evidence of these concepts in the case, what other leadership approaches do you see Cleveland Clinic using? Describe the evidence you see of Cleveland Clinic using these other leadership approaches.
DQ3: Patient Experience – Describe the kinds of data Dr. Merlino uses to measure patient experience. How does he approach using the data to get behavior change within the organization (e.g. among the physicians and nurses)? How does Dr. Merlino apply what we have been talking about – becoming data-driven to his work in patient experience, and do you see this as an approach that will ultimately be successful to improve patient experience?
DQ4: Chief Health Information Officer – Describe how a CXO (Chief Patient Experience Officer) and a CHIO might work together within a healthcare organization. Do these roles overlap? If yes, where do you see an overlap in responsibilities? What are the key differences in these leadership roles? Support your views with evidence from the readings or with additional references.
