Scholarly Article Review: What is Important in General Studies?
Purpose: Throughout your academic career, you have utilized your ability to engage in
information literacy. Information literacy includes the ability to identify, find, evaluate, and use
information effectively. From effective search strategies to evaluation techniques, students
evaluate the quality, credibility, and validity of sources, and give proper credit throughout their
college careers. This assignment is asking you to engage with a scholarly article in two ways:
annotation and review.
Requirements: Select one scholarly article from the three assigned articles (no e-book
chapters or sites or videos) in this module (Module Three).
Instructions:
Your scholarly article assignment will contain two parts.
Part One:
Actively engage with the text. Take ownership of what you read by annotating the article. Mark
up the text, jot down questions, comments or observations in the margins, and highlight
important passages/quotes. (You will scan in your annotated article for submission).
Part Two:
Answer the following questions (those that apply) about the article:
1. Title: What is it and what does it tell you about what the article will address?
2. Topic: What topic is the author studying? What is the primary finding?
3. Goal: What does the author intend to do? Why should we care about this
problem/study? How does the author intend to contribute to the field?
4. Results: What did the author find?
5. Discussion and Conclusion: What does it all mean and why is it important? What are the
author’s overall findings? Why are these findings important? What limitations of the
study does the author identify (if any)? What suggestions for future research does the
author make?
Part Two should be 2-3 pages, typed, double-spaced, 12-font Times New Roman. Scan your
annotated article and, along with the answers to the questions in Part Two, submit both using
