General Instructions: This assignment is an interactive posting-based discussion activity created to encourage interaction between students as well as student and instructor. Each discussion board activity is focused on a central theme with corresponding questions. Your participation will be graded based on the completion of required tasks (listed below), and the depth of analysis and engagement in your posts- See grading rubric for Discussion Board Assignments.
For each discussion board activity, you are required to complete two elements:
1) Submit an original post, in your own words citing at least 1 published source- our textbook counts, that answers the question or questions listed for the assignment (at least 250 words long- prepared in advance) posted by the deadline. Write your post as if it were a written assignment that you would turn in. Many people have points deducted because they submit their posts using slang language, e-mail, or text message formats. Note: Do not forget to capitalize the letter “I”. Points are also deducted if you do not cite your information with references (usually our textbook author, or from our textbook). If you need help using proper grammar click on the Writing resources in Modules and use the Purdue Owl Writing center.
AND
2) Respond to at least 2 other student’s posts. Note: Responding posts can be posted up to 2 days after the deadline for your original post.
Remember the assignment is to get you talking about what you have discovered. Use specific examples both in your answers to the questions and to your response to other students’ postings. You should also use at least 1 cited source in your reply posts. Check out the Grading Rubric for Discussions posted in the Discussions Module before you post your answers.

The Argument:
Should All Americans Be Entitled (have the right) to Universal Health Care?
“Proponents of the right to health care say that no one in the richest nation on earth should go without health care. They argue that a right to health care would stop medical bankruptcies, improve public health, reduce overall health care spending, help small businesses, and that health care should be an essential government service.” (pro/con.org)
“Opponents argue that a right to health care amounts to socialism and that it should be an individual’s responsibility, not the government’s role, to secure health care. They say that government provision of health care would decrease the quality and availability of health care, and would lead to larger government debt and deficits.” (pro/con.org)
Research 3 Key Pro or Con points about the Right to Health Care debate. You will only represent either the Pro side or the Con side.
Make sure you indicate whether you are representing the Pro position or Con position then:
List/describe your 3 key points. Make sure you include why you believe these points (you must back up your opinion with at least one reference for each point!).
