Go To Data SourceLoad Sample – Superstore.xls (Sample – Superstore.xls Download Sample – Superstore.xls)
Drag Orders, People, and Returns to the Data Source Worksheet
Go to Sheet 1 and Create a hierarchy using Category and sub-category
Now, we want to explore where the company is making money and where it is losing money
On Sheet 1 create a chart that shows Sales by Category
Add Returned as a filter, initially only consider values where Returned = Null
Add Profit to that chart by dragging Profit to the Color shelf on the Marks Card
Change the color of the Profit to be Red-to-Green in step sizes of 6You can use the Red-Green Diverging Style
Set the Stepping Color to 6 steps
Go to the Advanced OptionsSet start and end to a value that is reasonable (and even)
Set the Center to 0

Add Region as a filter to the chart (initially show all regions).
Right click on the chart and make sure that the Region filter is visible

Change the name of the Sheet 1 to Sales and Profit by Product.
Create a new worksheet
Use the Show Me capability to display Profit by StateSelect Profit and then, holding the ctrl key, select State
Select the map on the show me pane
Change the color of the Profit – such that losses are RED and gains are GREEN. Also, make sure that the start and end are set to appropriate values (equal – just different by sign (one is negative, one is positive), and the center is 0. Also, set the stepped color to 6.
Drag sales to the Label shelf on the Marks card. This should show the sales figures on the profit map.

Rename your sheet 2 to reflect the content

Add a title to your Dashboard – Sales and Profits by Region and Product
Q8. Make sure that your filters (Returned and Region) are applied to all related data sources. Set your filter for Returned to show Null only (these are orders that are not returned). Take a screen shot of the data for each region (4 screen shots – Central only, East only, South only, and West only).
