Hello Johanna- what a great experience
Mentorship in a professional setting is a great way to collaborate with others and create new skills and relationships that help you to meet a goal. According to Burgess et al. (2018), mentors have a significant influence on the mentee in many aspects of their professional career; to include career management, clinical skill, and teaching. People that have helped us to succeed in this program impact us. These may be individuals that are facility mentors, preceptors, and even the practicum faculty at Chamberlain; and, support of family, friends and colleagues. Howard (2020) points out, that mentorship is proven to be a key to success for those being mentored.
Mentors provide guidance, perspective, and advice which is a powerful role in a nurse’s professional life. Mentors guide nurses to help them identify and achieve their career goals with so many career paths, opportunities for advancement, and specializations to pursue. “You can and You will” were the echoed words by my family, best friend, and mentor that still rings today with the endeavors I have spearheaded. Truly, the supporting, coaching, guiding, and the encouraging relationship goes a long way.
Stay strong and push through!Hello Johanna- what a great experience!
