This assignment is intended to introduce Universal Design (UD) and the application of the UD principles within your communities. If you are an Educational Studies Major, you will have another opportunity to dive deeper into Universal Design in a future course (LSE 401). For this assignment, you will pick one environment (i.e., coffee shop, grocery store, neighborhood park, community center, community pool, restaurant, stores) and evaluate the environment with the principles of Universal Design in mind. Take two pictures of the environment, identify one example of a principle that is done well within this environment and one principle that is lacking or could be improved upon, write about how you can improve the environment and have it benefit all who interact within the environment.

ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
To complete the assignment, follow these instructions:
Picture (Two Pictures)
Visit a location in your community that you may or may not frequent (i.e., gym, coffee shop, restaurant, store, nail salon, park, neighborhood, etc.). Look for ways that universal design might enhance the experiences of differently-abled individuals.
Select one environment to evaluate using the Universal Design Principles
Take two pictures of the environment, identify one example of a principle that is done well within this environment and one example where a principle that is lacking or could be improved upon,
Application of Universal Design Principles
Describe the current location, points of accessibility, and inaccessibility.
Identify what principle of Universal Design is applied, define the principle and explain why you think the principle is met within this environment.
Identify which principle of Univeral Design can be improved upon, define it, and explain why you think it is not met within this environment.
Make a Plan
Make a plan to enhance the location using the principles of universal design. You are seeking your design to benefit all who interact within the environment.
You will submit the two pictures, UD information, and plan as one document.
