It is a Policy debates assignment. You will be assigned to argue the positive or negative side of a proposed debate topic. (For me, I am the negative side )You must write a six-page (1.5 spacing) paper arguing your assigned position on the topic using materials covered in class and materials you find on your own. The purpose of this exercise is to learn how to evaluate empirical and theoretical work. For this paper, you should read and synthesize the existing literature on the topic, but you should have your own thesis. The paper should not simply be a literature review: You should have a well-stated argument with empirical or theoretical findings to back it up, as well as findings that refute the other side of the argument.
