Application to Saint Louis University’s masters of nursing adult gerontology acute care nurse practitioner program.
About me:
– currently working in a CVICU with 1.5 years of experience in level I trauma hospital(Saint Louis university hospital)
-originally inspired to be a registered nurse due to compassionate care provided to my late grandmother while I was in university when she was in hospice.
-later, in my career, I got to experience an environment where I could work directly with nurse practitioners who would be directly in charge of patients’ care who were critically ill. Their autonomy and ability to make life or death decisions for their patients, place invasive lines for emergencies, Intubate as necessary…etc was fascinating to me because I would love to be that person in that role someday.
Short term goals: I want to work in an icu in which I can bridge the information learned from this masters program as well as my own bedside experience. Continue to learn and broaden my knowledge base.
Long term: I would be very interested in mentoring undergraduate nursing students. As someone who was once told that being a new grad nurse in the ICU was an impossible to adapt to, as there is a steep learning curve, I want to dispel that misconception. I would also want to participate in missions abroad(doctors without borders…etc) once I am comfortable in my skill sets.
