The objective of this assignment is that you research a breach that happened in the past 3 years and
discuss the legislations that are applicable to that particular breach. You are to identify a cybersecurity breach event that occurred in the United States over the past 3 years (since September 2019) and that was reported in the media.
Give brief description of the breach and the timeline of relevant events that took place during and after the breach (keep the timeline as technical as possible). Identify the laws and regulations that apply to this breach within the United States, and then compare them to the applicable laws and regulations if the breach took place in Canada.
Finally, analyze the actions taken from the breached organization whether they were compliant with Canadian laws or not, and discuss why you came to that conclusion.

Sections Description:
• Title Page
Your name, course, section, date, the professor’s name, the name of the company.
• Introduction (1 to 2 paragraphs)
A brief description and background of the organization you have selected.
• Summary of the Incident (2 pages)
Provide a chronological overview of the cybersecurity breach incident. Explain what occurred,
the type of cybersecurity incident, what data was stolen and what steps the organization
took.
• Timeline of Events (1-2 page)
Provide a brief description or an illustrative diagram showing the events taking place in
relevance to the breach. Try to keep it as technical as possible.
• Applicable US Laws and Regulations (1-2 pages)
A brief overview of the laws and regulations that you believe are applicable to this breach,
elaborating why you think these laws apply.
• Applicable Canadian Laws and Regulations (2-3 pages)
If this breach happened in Canada (specifically in Ontario), which laws and regulations would
apply? Elaborate on why you think these laws are the applicable ones.
• Legal Compliance Analysis (2-3 pages)
In this section you analyze whether the organization’s response to the breach was within the
applicable Canadian laws and identify the areas of failure of compliance (if any)

Your report must be double-spaced in 12pt font with one-inch margin. The report will be submitted
online and should be either in MS Word or pdf file format.
