Response Post: Respond to 2 of your classmates’ posts with approximately 200 words for each post (in paragraph form, following the guidelines below) on the following prompt:
Read through your classmates’ posts and choose to respond to one that you see connecting to the assigned reading this week—your goal is to explain what that connection is by using a pertinent quote from the reading that illustrates, speaks to, or deepens the ideas expressed by your classmate; you can also include a quote that challenges the ideas in the initial post. Whether your quote supports or challenges the post, make sure to explain how it relates.
Make sure your quote(s) are in MLA format, and that you include in-text citations that attribute authorship to our textbook author who wrote the essays, Hanif Abdurraqib. MLA Quote Example: “I don’t fear what the future holds as much as I fear not being alive long enough to see it” (Abdurraqib 21).
post # 1 Sean: In this generation, everyone listens to music where they talk about racism, sexual tension and many more. I on the other hand am against listening to music that promotes racism, sexually activity, etc. I picked Dennis Lloyd as a singer because he explains a story in each of his songs. Practically his albums “some days”. On July 2, 2021 the album “Some days” was released and gave the world some amazing songs to listen to. nothing crazy happened on this day except for some political and law stuff. one thing that has caught my attention was that Boy Scouts reach $850 million sexual abuse settlement meaning that The Boys Scouts of America has agreed to pay $850 million to settle a lawsuit that involves tens of thousands of people who say they were sexually abused while they were scouts. Its crazy how a big thing like the boy scouts of America can be accused and guilty of sexually assaulting boys in the scouts team. These 2 different things have no correlation to do with each other whatso ever but this is what happened on this day but asides from the assaults that have happened I believe this album “Some days” is the best album that Dennis Lloyd has yet.
post # 2 Isabel: “Do You Hear The People Sing” is associated with the hearing of the voices of people in a protest. “Do You Hear The People Sing” comes from the 1985 musical and 2012 movie Les Misérables. Les Misérables is about a French peasant who was jailed for nineteen years because he stole a loaf of bread. He was freed from a prisoner, but was being chased down by another. This proved to him that his freedom and peace was not going to come easily. The story takes place in 1815 to 1832, during the revolution. During this time, the peasants were ignored and their voices were never heard or accepted. Hence, during the time of the soldiers’ march, the viewers of the “parade” start to sing “Do You Hear The People Sing” to go against the higher powers. They take the flags and sing, “It is the music of the people who will never be slaves again”(Do You Hear The People Sing). They are tired of being ignored or harmed and decide to take a stand against the “royal power”. In 1985 and 2012 there were protests occurring all around the world. For example in May 2012, there were protests all over the world about the ongoing economic crisis. They wanted their voices to be heard and a change to occur. They marched the streets for their rights and voice. The association of “Do You Hear The People Sing” with the protests that went around the world is a representation of people fighting for their rights.
