Similarities and Differences
The similarities are that both countries offered free vaccination to their populations to motivate individuals to get vaccinated, they also have advanced information technology system and they both had a centralized decision-making body that ensured equitable distribution of vaccines. Also, both countries had a weakness in determining the efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines in asymptomatic infection, which can be attributed to rapid vaccine development, both countries were affected by supply constraints as the vaccine was insufficient to cater to the whole population, and they both had limited information on the efficacy of the vaccines on asymptomatic individuals.
The difference is that India indigenously manufactured its vaccines e.g., Covaxin and Covishield while Israel relied on supplies from WHO through COVAX. In addition, India had already existing global immunization programs while Israel had none. Israel and India had different weaknesses. First, due to inadequate vaccine supply, Israel resorted to maximizing first dose coverage in its population while India focused on high-risk populations. Second, Israel had inequitable vaccine distribution where the minority groups had limited access to vaccines while India tried to ensure there was equitable vaccine distribution.
