In the first assignment, you looked at one essay. Now we will look at two essays

In the first assignment, you looked at one essay. Now we will look at two essays in direct conversation with each other. Here is what you need to complete for this assignment:
– Find two essays discussing the same topic. They can be academic or popular sources. I will have some options, but it is always more fun to work with sources you enjoy and find personally interesting!
– Write an introduction. Describe the context: why is this topic important? What is the gist of the conversation? What is the main disagreement?
– Present your thesis.
– Summarize both essays using strategies from They say/I say textbook. You can summarize one source and then the second one, or summarize based on points the sources make, alternating between them.
– Explain how the authors agree and disagree, and craft your own response to the issues the two essays raise (“I say”). Make sure you include a naysayer to show possible objections to your argument.
– Draft a conclusion focusing on the next steps for the conversation and the “so what?” question.
– Add a references page with MLA/APA style citations of your sources.
In this essay I would like you to practice a couple more academic writing skills:
– Paragraph structure. Make sure your paragraphs have a claim (topic sentence), support (evidence and analysis), and conclusion. Most paragraphs in academic writing are at least 3-5 sentences. Avoid one sentence paragraphs!
– Citing sources. Try using in-text citations and create a reference page!
