A 4-MAT Review System provides you a way to respond on several levels to material or resources you read. The reading material upon which you will conduct your 4-MAT review includes any course materials up through Module 08 since this assignment is due in Module 09. You will choose one specific resource and then respond to it using the 4-MAT system, which has you engage with material by utilizing four cognate areas: cognitive, experiential, reflective, and volitional.
When writing your review, please structure your paper using the guidelines and organization demonstrated below.
Cognitive Response
Begin with a 250-word abstract in which you boil down the larger work of the unit readings/authors to a precise, no-nonsense summary. Avoid simply listing topics or settling for a commentary on “What I liked and disliked was…” Instead, demonstrate that you comprehended the reading by capturing the overall message of the author and the structure of their argument.
Experiential, Concrete Responses
In 250 words, speak to a personal story that the unit readings triggered. This section is the chance for you to speak in your own voice– you can even create a teaching parable in the style of a religious figure or philosopher. When relaying your story, make sure to do it in the first-person. Describe action and some of the actual words you remember hearing or saying, as well as the physical setting of your story.
Reflection
What new questions pop into your head in response to what you read? Try to outsmart the author and ask better questions than them. You can begin with questions like, “What bothered me about this book or the way the author presented their case?” Limit this section to 250 words.
Volitional Response
