Each student will choose a fictitious family from the list below. Once you choose a family, you will create them. Define your family and their presenting issues using your own creativity. Once you have created your family (make sure to write as though it is in a live situation and do not write in ‘ifs’), determine, if you were this family’s social worker, how would you assist them.
You will include the following information in no fewer than five paragraphs:
Provide a thorough description of the challenges and needs this client is facing. Students are encouraged to review our textbook, Dubois and Milley (2019) pages 73-77 and the tables related to determinants of social functioning to guide the development of your individual case study.
Discuss family’s relationships and interactions with systems as well as any difficulties with any systems. This could include social systems, social justice issues, and diversity issues.
Define the Ecological Perspective and discuss how it would be applied to this family. Be specific, this is your opportunties to identify the systems that are influencing this client, and
Describe how you would approach working with this family.
Fictitious families you may choose from:
A male aged (70 years old) married man was admitted to hospital following seizures. He was referred to the hospital social work team by the staff due to his evident self-neglect and concerns of his inability to care for himself.
A young girl (age 10) lives with her foster mother and four other non-kin foster children. She was removed from her mother’s care when she was eight years old and placed in a temporary foster home. She has begun to act out physically against the other minors in the home as well as her foster mother.
A recently married man and woman who emigrated to Arizona three weeks ago from Haiti.They are struggling to connect due to the language barriers and limited ability to earn money.
Same sex female couple that have been together for seven years was just told that one of them (who is unemployed and uninsured) has stage three-breast cancer. They have a limited amount of support and do not know what to do now.
Mom, boyfriend, and six children (ages 2, 3, 5, 7, 10, 14) moved to Arizona from out-of-state location to escape estranged husband who was abusive.They know they have to locate a safe place to live and get the kids in school but they do not know where to start.
A thirteen-year old Iraq-American boy currently lives with his father. They recently moved to Arizona due to his mother and younger sister being killed in Iraq when he was an infant. A year ago, the young boy ran away from the downtown hotel where he and his father lived.The father is very concerned that living in Arizona has removed any hopes of the boy being respectful and the father does not know what to do.
A non-binary gender person of an historically oppressed race is the victim of intimate partner violence. They feel isolated and alone as their family is not supportive.
