The first is an interactive map (http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/static/in_depth/world/2001/israel_and_palestinians/key_maps/6.stm). That traces the history of the conflict Israel has had with its neighbors (start with UN Partition and work your way up the titles on the left side).
The second is a map of current settlements and walls (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israeli%E2%80%93Palestinian_conflict#/media/File:West_Bank_%26_Gaza_Map_2007_(Settlements).png).
Make sure you read the map titles and explanatory notations, then the position of borders, and the legend (or key).
Once you have examined the maps, write an essay (300-500 words) that answers the following:
What was the original UN plan for the land previously known as Palestine? In what ways did the Israelis show their rejection of that plan? In what ways did Israel increase tensions with its Arab neighbors in the last 70 years? Why is peace so elusive today?
