-Your final paper is to be a thesis driven one in which you will be proving your point (your point is your
thesis).
-You will use the assigned sources within your paper to support your arguments and properly cite them
using the MLA style of in-text citations (otherwise known as parenthetical citations). You must use at
least five of the assigned sources.

General Description of the Assignment:
Through this assignment, you will demonstrate your knowledge of the changing role of women in US
society over time and examine how it applies to today. You will use the assigned primary, secondary,
and tertiary sources (at least five of them).
Format of the Final Paper:
You need to have an introductory paragraph that has a clearly stated and good quality thesis that
demonstrates understanding of the topic and connection between the past and the present. This thesis
should shape your entire essay and needs to be something that you can prove.
You need to discuss the topic within the body of your paper.
You will use at least five of the assigned sources and if you choose the textbook, lecture material from
your class. You are not allowed to use any other sources unless you have your professor’s
permission. That does not mean you cannot use outside sources, you just have to ask me for my
approval of a given source.
You will need to focus and prove your thesis as the body of your paper develops.
You will need to use direct citations from the provided sources and any other approved sources by your
professor to support your discussion utilizing MLA style for in-text citations (parenthetical
citations). You must properly cite your sources throughout the body of your paper. Further information
on how to do this can be found within your Canvas classroom as well as accessing the Purdue OWL site.
Your paper should be somewhere between three-six pages in length (not counting the Works Cited
page). You are being graded on quality, not quantity.
You need to have a conclusion on your essay that brings your thesis to a close and shows how you have
proven your argument.
Your paper must include your Works Cited page, it must be correct following the MLA style.
Submission instructions
The assignment (both the Final Paper and Works Cited) is to be submitted as one document through the
appropriate submission link in the Canvas classroom.
Your Works Cited should be in correct MLA format. If you are not familiar with MLA format, you can
consult the writing handbook from ENGL 1301 or 1302 if you are taking or have taken that class.
Otherwise, you can go to the Purdue OWL link to see how to cite sources in MLA format. You can also
use the Writing Center for Weatherford College (https://www.wc.edu/campus-resources/instructional-
support/learning-foundations/center-research-writing (Links to an external site.)Links to an external
site.) for help in using MLA format.
Your paper is to be double-spaced with one margins.
It is to be between 4 and 5 pages in length, not counting the Works Cited page.
Your writing is to be free of both basic grammatical and spelling errors. Significant grammatical and
spelling errors will result in a reduction in the overall grade.
The writing portion of the assignment should have both introductory and concluding paragraphs. Your
writing needs to be complete and well-written, and your sources must be cited correctly and thoroughly
throughout your paper.
If you use any quotations, you must have in-text citations for those quotations. You also need to cite any
paraphrasing or drawing of direct ideas from the sources.
