Analyze Montejo’s narrative as a challenge to the “the official story.” In what ways might groups in power (political, economic, social, cultural) see his story as subversive and dangerous to the status quo?
What evidence can you find that Montejo himself is optimistic and/or pessimistic that his narrative will contribute toward some type of personal, village, or national reconciliation?
What are the shortcomings, if any, to his story? Why must we analyze this narrative not as a neutral, unmediated account but as highly curated, edited, and organized into a Western form for high impact? Does this is any way diminish his story?
