The work that you did in Do Several Activities, Then Discuss: Work and the Economy prepared you perfectly to write this essay. You are taking the same idea now, but you will look for a painting that simultaneously represents two concepts: work and economy PLUS another concept from one of our other modules (your choice!).
The work that you did in part two of that assignment – describing the painting and linking it to a concept, providing quotes to support your ideas about that concept, and then explaining how it connects to the painting – you will be doing that work throughout this essay. In fact, multiple paragraphs of that will make up the majority of your essay! Then you will want to come up with a thesis that ties together how these concepts fit together with this painting and introduce your thesis in an introduction. Finally, you’ll go back through your draft and make sure it is clear and focused and that each paragraph also ties back to your thesis. Then you can conclude with why these ideas that you’ve just had matter, or what you would like your reader to think more about now that we’ve read your essay. That’s it! The fun/hard part will be finding a piece of art that you truly feel represents work and the economy PLUS another concept from this another of our modules.

Writing Your Essay
Come up with an argument about why or how the painting is representing the social values that you believe it represents – one related to Work and The Economy, and one related to any previous Module that we have studied.
Use quotes from the chapter from at least two modules to support your ideas. The sections from the GCC Writing Handbook that will help you with quoting and summarizing are “Integrating Quotes – Building a Citation Sandwich” and “Scholarly Moves with Sources.”
Describe the elements of the painting (remember only one painting) and make an argument for how those elements represent the social values (remember, two social values) you have chosen.
Your essay should be 700-900 words.
Cite your source(s) using MLA format. The section from the GCC Writing Handbook that will help you with this is “MLA Citation Resources.”
