read the following background material, interviews and transcripts. Your assignment is to prepare a summation for
either the prosecutor or the defense based on the material. In your summation you will argue that the
defendant should be convicted of the crime and why you believe the evidence
shows that (if you choose the prosecutor’s summation) or that the defendant
should be found not guilty of the crime and why you believe the evidence shows
that (if you choose the defense attorney’s summation).
Your
summation may only be based on the evidence adduced at the trial, which is
reflected in the transcript. The
background material and interviews are not evidence. They are there to give you some perspective
as to how the evidence was developed. Do
not use these materials in forming your summation.
