Let’s play a fun and learning activity.
Using either phone calls, text messages, email messages, or any other form of communication of your preference, contact a minimum of 10 people (classmates, friends or volunteers) and ask them if they want to help you with a small survey for a class project.
Inform them that during this survey, no names or any personal data will be collected.
Ask them the following questions:
Which is your favorite season: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter (variable name: Season)
How do you rate your preference for winter sports? High, medium, or low. (Variable name: Winter_Sports)
In this case: High = I like winter sports a lot and I practice one or two.
Medium = I like winter sport but I do not practice any of them.
Low = No, I don’t like winter sports.
How many hours of television do you watch everyday? (Variable: TVHours)
Height in inches (Variable: Height)
On your report, DO NOT present any personal information from your volunteers, use anonymized identifiers such as:
person 1, person 2, etc., or volunteer 1, volunteer 2, etc., or ID01, ID02, etc.
1. Indicate your sampling method. Describe your methodology, imagine that another person would like to repeat your survey.
2. Explain how your methodology ensured that your data was randomly collected.
3. Use Excel to prepare and present a table with the data you collected.
4. In the same table indicate the type of each variable:
Categorical nominal, categorical ordinal, numerical continuous, numerical discrete.
5. At the bottom of the table, add descriptive statistics for all variables, use your knowledge and imagination.
6. Explain what new skills you learnt through this exercise.
