In a well-organized essay propose some form of police reform. Be specific about the reform, it can be a small change or one that goes well beyond “police” and changes all of society. Use all three approaches to economic analysis discussed in this class (Mainstream/Rational Actor, Behavioral, and Heterodox) to support your proposal or explain how the approach isn’t relevant, appropriate, or accurate.
The essay should be approximately 3 to 5 pages with double spacing, one inch margins, 12 point font – preferably Times New Roman, but anything legible is okay.
Your essay should have the following structure:
Give it a MEANINGFUL title.
Introductory paragraph: state your proposal first, then preview the rest of the essay.
One explanation paragraph where you give a deep explanation of your proposed police reform. Be specific and detailed but keep it to only one paragraph.
Three “body” paragraphs, one for each of the three approaches. The first sentence of each paragraph should indicate how this approach supports your proposal how it isn’t relevant, appropriate, or accurate.
Conclusion paragraph: repeat your proposal and summarize your argument.
Your essay will be graded on persuasiveness, so make sure it is edited and polished. Your grade will depend on how well your examples support your proposal.
You should NOT give any definitions for the three approaches because you do not have enough space and you can assume your audience already knows about these three approaches.
You should NOT conduct extensive research outside of the readings provided for the class. All the potential crimes have been discussed in class.
