You will pretend one single PPT slide is your entire poster.
•You can use down to 8pt font (only on picture descriptions, regular info should be in 18pt font, titles can be larger of course)
•You will show it on a projector, you do NOT need to spend the money to print it out. Be sure to email a copy to me for grading!
•Poster must be on an infectious disease (caused by some microorganism).
Topics to Cover (Mandatory)
•What causes the disease (virus, bacteria, fungus, protozoan, etc.) –do not say “caused by a parasite†(all infectious diseases are caused by parasites, so that’s not helpful).
•Route of transmission (sex/blood, fecal/oral, arthropod (mosquitoes, ticks, etc.), or whatever. Sometimes you can find a helpful graphic from the CDC or elsewhere online to help.
•Symptoms (can be listed in a bulleted list if most helpful)
•Treatment options (it’s ok to say “none for the disease itself†or “only treatment of symptoms like aspirin, or drinking lots of water, etc.†list if vaccines are available, etc. –do NOT list a bunch of complicated drug n, but instead say something like “certain antibiotics†…
•List the survival rate if you can. Try looking at the “Morbidity and MortailityWeekly Report†by the CDC for info on morbidity (# sick), mortality (# who die) to help calculate survival rate.
• Geographical Distribution: try to find a map or graph showing which areas of the world are most heavily impacted. You MUST include this info in picture form. If you can’t find a picture from the web, you’ll have to make your own (download a world map and color it yourself…)
