script podcast

This week we look at “dying mediums” like print newspapers, DVDs and CDs.  Times change. As students of media, our job is to investigate how and why mediums are dying. What is lucrative about new mediums? Why do people like them? How do new mediums change the way music is made? For example, this week we will focus on music – the death of CDs and the rise of streaming platforms. In the assignment you will create a  script for a podcast that reviews the course materials and alerts the audience to a dying medium.

Tasks to Complete:   Explore course materials and complete assignment:  Write a podcast script about the death/decline of a particular medium.

Create a script for a  podcast that reviews the course materials from this week (the death of CD’s) and then covers another medium that has recently been undergoing change or disruption. Print Books? Print Newspapers? Magazines? Network (ABC, NBC, CBS) TV? Broadcast Radio? Big Hollywood Studio Movies (and movie theaters)? Go ahead and alert your listeners to the plight of the medium you chose.

Submit:

1. This assignment should be a script for a podcast. It should be 3-4 minutes long if you speak it. In practice the script should be 2- double spaced pages. Make sure you read it aloud before you submit to make sure. Here’s a quick tutorial  if you need help: How to Write a Podcast Script

2. Introduce the name of the podcast. (You can be creative with this or straightforward – whatever suits you.)

3. Spend a moment introducing your audience to what you learned this week. How and why are CDs disappearing?

4. Introduce your readers to a dying medium of your choice (newspapers, magazines, etc)

5. Briefly describe a few key points in the  history of this medium.

6. Find some statistics to show that the medium is indeed dying. Include them in your script.

7. What new medium threatens the old one. Can the old medium be saved?

Please be sure to include any sources you used in APA format.
