In the twentieth century, the major crime that attracted major interest in the U.S criminal justice system was white-collar, organized crime, and terrorism. Both involve illegal activities organized and run by enterprises, groups of associated individuals, corporations, and unions. They also aim to satisfy certain interests from their target group for their vested interests. Furthermore, both may not have individual target victims since they target business units and government installations. Moreover, they are also associated with crimes committed to the furtherance of personal profits and interests. As occurrence of terrorism and crime occur in the U.S. and the entire world, Homeland security plays a critical role in the fight against this vice.

In the contemporary world, nearly everyone has encountered some form of crime or terror, either as a primary or a third-party witness. Crime can be defined as an individualistic or a group act or omission of an action that gives rise to an offense prosecutable by law. In a bid to exorcise such evil and malevolent acts from society, Homeland is instituted with the mandate and resources necessary for fighting against such events. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is a federal executive section responsible for public security roughly compared with other internal and domestic agencies. Fighting against crimes and terrorism is one of their jurisdictions apart from averting cyber securities, disaster management, border security, among others (Alperen, 2017). Its core mission is to formulate, coordinate, and execute comprehensive strategies ensuring the U.S. is safe from terror attacks and peripheral crimes, including the export of illegal drugs.
