HLT 241 Global Health Perspectives Final Reflection Essay

Directions and Grading:

Prepare a 2-4-page reflection paper by responding to four (4) questions as outlined in the instructions below.  The paper format should have one-inch margins using 10 to 12-point font.  It should be double spaced, and word processed. Each response should be between and 1 page (150 to 350 words). You must answer questions 1-3 and then choose any one from the choice items.  Include your name and HLT 241 on each page. The text of the question should not appear in your paper; simply put the question number (#) before each response.

Your paper will be graded on:

1. quality of your responses (complete and thoughtful with examples from course, use of at least three references for the entire paper-in text citations and reference page) -80 points/20 points each
2. writing skills (grammar, spelling, sentence structure, punctuation at collegiate level) -10 points
3. following described format for the paper including correct course citation (APA or MLA for articles, books, notes) – 10 points

Mandatory Essay Items:  Reflect on the first day of class through now to respond to these questions:

1. Identify one global health issue affecting mothers and/or infants in a low- or moderate-income country. Describe why this is an issue. Be sure to identify if the issue is related to environment, climate change or a specific social determinant. Using one Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), provide one recommendation to lower the morbidity or mortality rates.
2.  In the late 1990s a pharmaceutical company agreed to provide HIV management medication to an African country with high rates of AIDS.  The African country paid for the medication but did not receive the medicine as promised. What is one legal and/or ethical issue with this situation? How could a foundation or corporation help?
3. What are three considerations a country should contemplate prior to providing humanitarian aid to another country? For example, what are three things the US should consider before helping China with the Coronavirus epidemic?

1. Compare and contrast your definition of global health from the beginning of the class until the end?
2. Describe at least three ways your chosen career field may impact global health. (Dental Hygienist)
3. Describe one organization that impacts global health through policy, research, funding, humanitarian and/or health promotion efforts. Provide information such as its mission, where it is located, website address, and a list of services or key initiatives.
