ART RESEARCH METHODOLOGIES ASSIGNMENT

You must demonstrate that you have applied a specific method that determines and supports the research of your essay.

 In preparation for your essay, you will demonstrate an understanding of methodologies by considering TWO possible research methods for your work of art.  

1. ) Review the Power Point in this module to understand various methods by which art historians interpret work of art.

2.)  Select the two methodologies that can be best applied to the work of art you are researching.  In your Proof of Methodologies assignment, you will demonstrate that your understanding.  

For example:  Let’s pretend you are considering the iconography of a painting by the sixteenth century Italian painter Bronzino as the methodology for its research.  In your Proof of Methodologies assignment, you will outline why this methodology is essential for understanding it, and give two to three examples of how it is applies in this specific painting.  For the second methodology you might consider, for example, sexuality or feminism in Bronzino’s work.  Even if this is not related to the primary thesis of your Research Essay, in the Methodologies project you will explain how sexuality or feminism can be used as a method for its interpretation.  

Details

• at least two full pages (minimum one-page per each methodology)
• the methodology will be listed at the top of the page, in bold and underlined
• body of the text is single-spaced, space between paragraphs, 12-pt Times New Roman font
• one paragraph will introduce the work of art you are researching
• the second paragraph will explain why the methodology you have chosen can be used to interpret and understand your work of art
• the final paragraph may provide any / all of the following: further explanation, comparative examples, conclusion regarding how the methodology will or will not influence your paper and why.
• citations are not required, unless you use quotes or cite a resource in the paper; in that case you will need to provide a footnote in MLA citation style
