Scenario: You have recently been named as principal in a
school that is struggling to improve the professional culture and student
achievement. Your interviews and investigations with staff indicate a very
top-down culture where teachers and support staff have not been accustomed to
being a part of the decision making. Because you know from research
and experience that collaborative professional cultures
promote staff retention and engagement as well as increase student
learning and growth, you know that you must take steps to shift the
current culture for more engagement, collaboration, and shared
leadership.
