Review the attachment Rubric along with the instructions below to guide the creation of chapter 3 for, which includes your methodology section; your focus is on the introduction, description, design, sample and population, instrumentation and data collection, data analysis and summary:
Introduction – This section overs the remainder of the chapter and provides a “big picture” overview of your methodological approach. The introduction restates the purpose statement to the study. This section also outlines the expectations for this chapter.
Description – This section describes the research procedure that will be applied in this study. Once the research is complete, you will need to revise this section from future to past tense. This section also describes the research methodology for the study (quantitative, qualitative, or mixed) and explains the rationale for selecting this particular methodology. It also describes why this methodology was selected as opposed to the alternative methodologies. This section should elaborate on the Methodology section (from Chapter 1) providing the rationale for the selected research method (quantitative, qualitative, or mixed). This section may bring in additional arguments based on the empirical studies used in the Methodology section in Chapter 2. This section justifies why the selected methodology is better than the alternative methodologies. Arguments are supported by citations from articles and books on research methodology and/or design. It is also appropriate in this section to outline the predicted results in relation to the research questions and hypotheses based on the existing literature.
Design – This section describes how the phenomenon was directed for examination and evaluation. The phenomena in the study have been operationalized (directed) for examination and evaluation in several phases. This section also includes a detailed description of, and a rationale for, the specific design for the study and describes how it aligns to the selected methodology indicated in the previous section. Designs for quantitative studies include descriptive/survey, correlational, causal-comparative, quasi-experimental, and experimental. Designs for qualitative designs include case study, narrative, grounded theory, and phenomenological. Additionally, this section must describe why the selected design is the best option to collect the data to answer the research questions and test the hypotheses.
Sample and Population – This section describes the population about which inferences will be made and the intended subset of the population to be examined in this study. The population under study might be ten education leaders from each of the four regions of the United States who have served in the field for five years or more who were located via the Internet and contacted through e-mail to secure their participation interest. This section also describes the process for obtaining site authorization to access the target population, the site authorization process (what needs to be included in request) confidentiality measures, study participation requirements, and geographic specifics. If public data sources or social media are used to collect data, although site permission is not required, provide arguments and evidence as to why these sources can be used without site permission. Lastly it describes the sampling strategy and process for recruiting individuals to comprise the sample.
Sources of Data or Instrumentation- This section fully identifies and describes the types of data that will be collected, as well as the specific research materials, instruments, and sources used to collect those data (tests, questionnaires, interviews, data bases, media, etc.). It discusses the specific research materials, instrument, or source to collect data for each variable or group for a quantitative study and the specific research materials, instrument(s), or source(s) to collect information to describe the phenomena being studied for a qualitative study.
Data Collection – This section describes the means by which data related to the phenomena under study will be collected. The researcher may be the primary instrument for data collection, whereas a brief questionnaire may guide the controlled collection of opinionative feedback. This section addresses all data collection instruments and measures (tests, questionnaires, interview protocols, and so forth). This section should include a description of each instrument or measure, its norming data, validity and reliability statistics, results of field tests conducted to determine validity, reliability, or appropriateness of the instrument. This is also a description of the procedures (detailed description of steps taken to implement methods) for the following methods: sampling, protection of participants, data collection (including data organization, management, and storage), data analysis, and presentation of findings. When using materials for an experiment, this section describes the structure of the experiment and the materials used for it as well as specify the type and level of data collected with each instrument.
Data Analysis Procedures – This section describes the techniques to be used for examination and evaluation of data. This section provides a step-by-step description of the procedures to be used to conduct the data analysis. The key elements of this section include the process by which raw data were prepared for analysis and then subsequently analyzed. This section describes in detail the relevant data collected for each stated research question and/or each variable within each hypothesis (if applicable). It describes, in detail, the data management practice including how the raw data were organized and prepared for analysis, statistical and non-statistical analysis to be used, and overall procedures used to conduct the data analysis.
Ethical Considerations- This section discusses how data will be stored, safeguarded, and destroyed, as well as how the results of the study will be published. This section should also reference IRB approval to conduct the research, which includes subject recruiting, informed consent processes, and the voluntary nature of study.
Limitations and Delimitations to the Methodology and Design- This section describes any limitations and delimitations related to methodology, sample, sources of data, data collection process, and data analysis. It explains why the existing limitations are unavoidable. (Note: this section must be updated in Chapter 5 as limitations emerge during collection and analysis and any impacts of the results of the study.)
Summary – This section provides an encapsulation of the research, analysis, and reporting methodology used in the study. This section restates what was written in Chapter 3 and provides supporting citations for key points. The summary should demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the overall research design and analysis techniques. The Chapter 3 summary ends with a discussion that transitions the reader to Chapter 4.
