Provide an analysis of the case below, including the client’s main symptoms, diagnosis, possible causes of the disorder, and treatment options. Use the course text and/or a scholarly peer-reviewed journal article to support your diagnosis and explanations of causes. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts, explaining your agreement or disagreement and rationale regarding their analysis, no later than Day 7.
Steve is a 41-year-old, single, unemployed, Caucasian male. He reported several episodes of depression over the last twenty years, involving depressed mood, excessive sleep, low self-esteem, suicidal thoughts, and weight gain. He also described periods that occur about once or twice a year in which he can go without sleep for three to four days and feels “really good” about himself. He reported that during these periods, he feels very productive and can get a lot done around the house, even though others describe him as irritable and hard to understand. He also reported that when he feels “good”, he is inspired to try something new, which has led to spending sprees of about $500-1000 at a time on clothes, art supplies, books, etc.
