Objective: Analyze the religions, values,
and laws in your chosen society.
Introduction
Ethics is the ability to determine right from wrong and to modify behavior
based on this determination. Ethics may pertain strictly to morality and how
truth is determined, or it may extend to choosing a course of action based on
morality, challenging a person’s belief system, or analyzing how morality
applies to the outcome of different situations. Ethical behavior may occur in
relation to one individual or within the context of society as a whole. The
study of ethics evolved based on the theories of Greek philosophers, such as
Socrates and Aristotle, who considered the roles of self-knowledge, virtue,
happiness, and moderation, for example, in relation to societal behavior. In
this topic, you will learn about the principles of ethics, and how ethics
relates to religion, values, and laws within society. At the end of the topic,
you will see how ethics transcend a wide variety of situations and influence
patterns of behavior within society. Apply this understanding of ethical value
systems to your chosen society.
