M‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍y name is Raymond Sancristobal and I will be applying to law school. Law School Choices – University of Miami and College of Law Syracuse University I would need (One) letter for University of Miami and (One) letter College of Law Syracuse University. Both need to have the same theme but worded differently. • I am the son of two immigrants who fled Cuba due to the communist government. Not only did my parents flee Cuba’s tyranny in order to provide a better life for my brothers, but they also left behind their parents and entire family. In the 1980s, my parents and two brothers immigrated to the United States in search of a better life. My parents’ self-sacrifice will never be forgotten. My parents went 15 years without seeing their family, and the only communication they had was through letters and phone conversations. • I was born in Tampa, Florida, and raised in Miami, Florida. In Miami, Florida, I attended elementary, middle, and high school. My undergraduate degree was in audio engineering from the International Academy of Design and Technology (Tampa, FL), and my master’s degree in music business and entertainment industries from the University of Miami. It was a dream come true for me to attend the University of Miami. Every cour‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍se I took was valuable to me, as was the knowledge I obtained. • I’m thinking about going to law school. The desire to become a lawyer stems from a desire to assist talented minority immigrant artists who may be unfamiliar with the legal system as it pertains to music and entertainment. • My main goal as a lawyer would be to give back to the minority community by educating them about music options, publishing, distribution, royalties, and overall positioning the artist in the best possible position for their future. • Artists who don’t speak English or can’t read but have a lot of talent would be unable to hire an entertainment lawyer. My plan is to put these people in front of label companies and equip them with the knowledge they need to negotiate the best deals. • The long term plan is to find other lawyers who share my passion and form a non-profit 501(c)(3) to assist other minority artist in other states. This will take time and dedication, but when I consider on all of the people who have assisted my parents with information, translation, or even a work reference, it gives me the motivation to make this vision a reality. • Being accepted into law school will be the first step toward making a difference in the lives of ‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍aspiring artists.
