I‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍mplementation of Team Leadership in School Settings The increased complexity of required tasks resulting from a need for higher quality services, competition, and leaner organizational employee structures have led educational organizations to work in teams. Team members work collaboratively as well as independently to address specific tasks for the accomplishment of organizational goals. Work teams are often capable of better decisions and problem-solving, more significant innovation and creativity, utilizing valuable resources more efficiently, responding quickly to frequent change, and realizing more efficient and improved productivity. Examples of work teams in schools include Response to Intervention (RTI) and Individualized Education Program (IEP) teams. Both RTI and IEP teams are multidisciplinary, involving special education teachers, general education teachers, school psychologists, school administrators, and parents to determine special education evaluation and placement. These teams establish a climate and a culture where shared leadership is the team’s norm, enhancing opportunities and increasing the quality of relationships (Kniffin & Patterson, 2019). These multidisciplinary teams work collegially to provide appropriate service to special education students for the best possible educational outcomes. Leading work teams is a unique process, much different from leading workers individually or departmentally. Team membership can comprise many individuals throughout an organization and involve lateral decision-making rather than the traditional vertical or top-down authoritative decision-making model (Meador, 2020). This approach establishes a climate and a culture where shared leadership is the team’s norm. Open communication, building team members’ leadership capacity, and enhanced opportunities increase the quality of relationships as a team and with all stakeholders. This week’s assignment involves team leadership and how you might utilize this information to benefit your leadership style. You will prepare a presentation to a hypothetical team you are leading. Think about your areas of interest and the type of team you hope to lead one day or currently lead. References Kniffin, L. E., & Patterson, R. M. (2019). Re-imagining community leadersh‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍ip development in the post-industrial era. Journal of Leadership Education, 18(4), 188-209. Meador, D. (2020). 10 Things a successful school principal does differently. ThoughtCo. Assignment This week, you will prepare a narrated presentation using the audio/video capturing tool located in NCUOne.
