For the first part of your Project, your assignment is to choose a company and/or organization that you will use to to create the final project which includes a PowerPoint presentation and accompanying 2-page paper. For this assignment you will provide some background and information about your choice in the format included in the attached assignment.
This is not a formal proposal but the information you gather/write will be a part of your formal proposal later. You don’t have to know exactly what you will be doing for this company or organization yet, but you do need to have a sense of what would benefit them and why—identifying an area of need.
For example, you might be familiar with a company but feel their web site could be more effective. Your PPT could then be you persuading them to update/redo their website.
Part I: Company/Organization – Background
For the first part of your Project, your will choose a company or organization that you will be using as the topic of your final project. This assignments asks you to provide some background and information about the organization or company you chose. You are free to choose a company/business/organization with whom you work or are affiliated with. You might choose to do something for a company that you don’t yet work for, but would like to.
This is not a formal proposal but the information you gather/write will be a part of your formal proposal later. You don’t have to know exactly what you will be doing for this company or organization yet, but you do need to have a sense of what would benefit them and why—identifying an area of need.

For this company/organization, you will create and communicate a sticky message on something that solves a problem or is relevant to its mission, goals or business.
How to Format this Unit One Assignment:
This part of the project is not a formal proposal. You don’t need a cover sheet. Your background will simply include the following information under four major sections with the headings outlined in the format below (format as it appears in the attached doc).

Briefly detail location, size (this can be the company you currently employed by or another organization you are familiar with). You should include an image of the company’s logo and a link to their website.
Affiliation
How are you familiar and/or affiliated with this organization? If you are not personally connected to this company, what do you like about it? Why are you choosing this company or organization? (approx. 2 paras)
Summary of Organization/Company’s Purpose
Summary of the organization’s purpose or company’s business, including, but not limited to: Mission, short history of company/organization, function (i.e. what service or product do they offer). You may take this info from a web site, but you must put all text into your own words and provide direct quotes when appropriate. Please provide any relevant information you feel is important to include. (2-3 paras)
Rationale for Choosing
Why are you choosing the company/organization. Why is this company/organization a good choice for you and for this project? What are their potential communication/messaging needs? You don’t have to have this decided yet, but you should have some sense of their needs and how your presentation would assist them in some way. You want to not only get an A on this project, you want to have a real-world sticky tool that makes a difference for a real company/organization. (1-3 paras)
Format: Please format under the headings provided above. Bold the headings. Double space between the sections, and single space within the sections. In business writing, we generally do not indent paragraphs. What you create should look like what I wrote above.
