After you’ve watched the videos and selected a prompt, we recommend you re-watch the video for that question several times as you write your response. For full credit make sure to reference the dance, using rich descriptive language to support your argument. (Response no more than 1-2 paragraphs.)
5) Watch Pearl Primus’ 1945 work “Strange Fruit”, performed here by Dawn Marie Watson of Philadanco. Why is this work important? Consider the historical context, the dance, and the choreographer herself.
6) Watch this video of Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon in “Who’s Got the Pain?” from the 1958 film Damn Yankees. Is this vernacular jazz, theatrical jazz, or both? Explain your answer.
