Microbes are also called ‘microorganisms’ which are tiny living things found in water, soil and air. The most common types of microbes are bacteria, fungi, viruses, protozoa among others. Some microbes contribute positively to the health of human beings while others make them sick.they include all unicellular organisms and they are extremely diverse.
-are they all bad?
no,not all microbes are bad.this is because the most common microbes (bacteria, virus and fungi) all play positive and negative roles.they can cause disease as well as helping one to stay healthy.
-beneficial microorganisms
bacteria
they live in the body and keeps one health perfect for instance helping the immune system by fighting germs, in production of particular foods such as yogurt, cheese.and some like lactic acid bacteria in the bowel help in digesting food.
viruses
some viruses are manipulated to be beneficial to human health whereby they offer cure cancer ,fight pathogenic viral infections and even correcting genetic disorders
fungi
can be used as natural pesticides since some attack insects, used during medical researches and production of subsatmces that human use as medicine, moreso yeasts is used in production of beer, bread and wine.
-harmful microorganisms
some of bacteria, fungi, protozoa and viruses al causes diseases and infections that cause deterioration of human health and even plant health.
-tools needed to identify microorganism that cause disease
microscopy
this ensures proper identification of a pathogen with help of biochemical staining techniques majorly used in gram staining methods
microbial culture
whereby a sample is obtained from an infected individual and tested for the presence of an infections microbe which is capable of growing on specific media.
biochemical tests
it involves test of fermentation products, enzyme products and metabolic products that the infectious microbe can use.
