In the response papers you’ll consider carefully what you think or feel about the stories we read for this class. A more detailed description and sample response papers are located in the Response Paper Folder.
The response paper will be graded based on how well you show an understanding of the reading(s) and the quality of your examples from the story, your experiences/ your observations of the world/ further connections to other texts or works of art (films, books, TV shows, paintings/drawings/sculptures).
Read the stories for each week, and while reading, think about the following questions:
How do you feel about what you are reading?
What do you agree or disagree with?
Can you identify with the situation?
How does this story or how do these two stories connect to your experiences or observations of society and the world or other works of art you have encountered? (Your answer to this question should form the basis of your response paper).
Requirements:
Your response paper must be focused on one or two of the stories for the week.
It should have several paragraphs (at least 4) and be around 500-700 words.
You must include evidence from the story.
You must also include evidence from either another text/ film/ work of art/ or your observations and experiences.
The paper must be double spaced. (It will not be graded if it is single-spaced).
The paper must have a heading (your name, the course and section, and the name of the assignment).
The paper must have a title that tells us the name(s) of the story/ies and the theme/focus of the response.
The paper must have thesis or clear focus at the end of the introduction.
