You can use this to introduce yourself:
My name is Jane Doe, and I am a 38-year-old mother of two beautiful girls and a newborn baby boy now. I currently reside in New York City. I am in the last semester at Southern New Hampshire University in the MBA program. I graduated with my bachelor’s in business administration from Purdue University. I am a Healthcare worker and working in healthcare for 21 years. I started front desk. Little by little, I climb up the ladder. I would have to say I have learned so much but 2020 was a roller coaster of a year. I am truly proud of my team, we worked 7 days a week, made sure our family were ok and I worked hard to continue my education to finally this term taking my masters to finally graduate MBA Business Management with a concentration in leadership. I would love to one day become a CEO or even own my own business. Covid-19 has dramatically changed our lives with less social connection. I love cleaning, cooking, decorating, and vacationing, but I love my kids most of all.
Explain what leadership means to you. What is the connection between leadership and psychology? Discuss leadership theories and connect those to relevant examples. In your responses to your classmates, compare their examples to your own and ask questions to further the discussion.
To complete this assignment, review the Discussion Rubric document.
Student # 1—— 1-1 Discussion—-Liliana C——
Hello everyone, my name is Liliana, but I like to go by Lili. I am majoring in psychology with an emphasis on industrial and organizational psychology. I am currently living in California but hope to move out of state this year. I am also looking at continuing my education by looking at doctorate programs in Industrial/Organizational Psychology.
Leadership means coming together with a group of people to help achieve a goal. Leadership is about being able to take control of a situation and knowing when to let go. It has to deal with listening and hearing others’ opinions and communicating effectively and efficiently. There are plenty of connections between psychology and leadership. Leadership can cause people to become too powerful and aggressive towards others if they feel threatened. It can lead to certain people using their leadership skills for ill-intended things. In this aspect, psychology helps to understand how and why certain people become more driven towards dictator mentality leadership and why some fear the leadership position. It can also help explain the relationships between leaders and members. Leadership psychology helps understand the many facets that come from being an effective leader or an ineffective one.
Bolden et al. (2006) list seven types of leadership theories that help describe leadership situations. The leadership theories include the great man theories, trait theories, behaviorist theories, situational theories, contingency theories, transactional theories, and transformational theories. The great man theories deal with the idea that leaders are exceptional who possess innate qualities to be leaders (Bolden et al., 2006). One such example is George Washington who is said to be one of the greatest leaders this nation has had. Trait theories deal with the traits or qualities a person possesses that are associated with leadership (Bolden et al., 2016). An example could be people who are naturally extroverted and goal-oriented such as Steve Jobs. Steven Jobs was able to make an idea come to life and helped one of the most crucial technological companies.
Behavioral theories focus on the actions leaders produce rather than the qualities they possess (Bolden et al., 2006). One example is Steve Wozniak who may not have the characteristics of being a leader such as being extraverted. Nonetheless, he still has shown he could be a good leader based on his actions. Bolden et al. (2006) describe situational theories as based on the situation in which it is seen such as in sports where the leadership position may changer depending on the game being played and the opponents. Contingency theory is similar to situational theory, it deals with effective leadership based on the variables at hand (Bolden et al., 2006). An example is when a member of a team has to step up to the leadership position due to the lack of control the captain or coach may have on the members. The last two types are transactional theory and transformational theory. The former deals with the relationship between the leader and the follower while the latter focuses on changing performance for the better (Bolden et al., 2006). An example of the former is Bill Gates who motivates the members to work hard and provides his employees benefits for their work. An example of the latter would be Jeff Bezos who is continuously looking for improvements and progress towards better ideas.

Student #2—- The Psychology of Leadership Discussion —Makayla H
Hi everyone, my name is Makayla. I’m from Ohio, hoping to move in the near future. I live with my fiancé, our dog and cat.
According to Kruse (2013), leadership is a process of social influence, which maximizes the efforts of others, towards the achievement of a goal. To me, leadership involves encouraging a group to work together towards a goal and encouraging people to do their best, both for themselves and everyone else they encounter. Leadership and psychology have a connection through behavior. Hackman and Wageman (2007) found the example of airline captains. Leadership was identified as excellent or poor. The difference between excellent leaders and poor leaders were the patterns of behavior that they exhibited. An effective leader uses his or her wisdom, also known as their intelligence, creativity, and knowledge to better public benefit (Hackman & Wageman, 2007). This is an example of trait theories because it describes what qualities or traits are built-in to leaders.

Hi,
My name is Name I am a mother of two (ages 5 and 8). Live upstate NY but work in NYC in healthcare. I have worked in the healthcare system for over 10 years. I literally started from the bottom. I started as a TV/Phone collector worked my way up to now being the supervisor of operations for a multi services practice.
Leadership to me means someone who has the ability to lead and communicate properly. This person is able to do a great job leading in any situation and dealing with any type of personality that it encounters. A leader is someone who thinks outside of the box. There is a connection between leadership and psychology. The main goal is to understand the behavior of people and help them feel that their contribution is important, which will allow them to be more effective. In the long run it will help with the morale, motivate, and performance.
One of the leadership theory is contingency theory, this theory I believe is the most important one. Contingency Theory is fixed and promote matching leaders with situations. Working in a hospital and being a supervisor I have to deal with patients, staff in different circumstances and being able to think outside the box and act quickly is important. I believe not only a person with a leadership title is a leader. I have a great team and I believe they are all leaders. They act on it and are not always looking for me to give them the answer.
