Rubric as follows:
Essay addresses one of the three short stories specified in

Essay has a specific argument thesis based around a main idea, claim,
or interpretation about the text and addresses this thesis throughout the
essay. 30
Essay uses literary devices to support and develop ideas. 25
Essay provides a brief biography of the author of the story being
analyzed. 25
Essay does not rehash, summarize, or provide a synopsis of the story. 20
Essay contains a good conclusion that reiterates the thesis and wraps
up the analyses. 20
Essay contains at least 4 outside academic sources to support the
thesis – no .com sources. It also should include a source for the
biography and a citation for the short story. 30
Essay properly cites sources in the text, including required evidence
from passages in the text. 30
Essay contains an annotated Work Cited page that properly cites at
least two reliable/academic sources in MLA format. 30
Essay is free of grammatical mistakes (i.e., misspellings, incomplete
sentences, incorrect verb usage and agreement, punctuation, etc.) and
