You are the Health and Safety Manager of a Company that makes soft drinks. This involves the filling and sealing of bottles and cans on production lines. Some noise measurements have been made in the factory, although the sound level meter used was not calibrated. However, the results obtained with this meter indicated many areas exceed 90 dB(A).
While employees are provided with ear plugs to use it is unclear why they have been chosen other than the fact that they were readily available; furthermore, the use of them is not enforced.
Several employees who have worked at the company for over 10 years have recently been diagnosed with Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL).
Write a Management Report that clearly identifies the issues arising. You should include the approach you may take to measure noise exposure, the options for prevention and control of exposure including noise attenuations you would expect to achieve. You may quote legislation, controls and recent published research as it relates to your own Country (or a Country of your choice) to support this Report.
