This is the overall instructions I was given:

and assess the most significant features of that country (i.e.
political, social, economic). What are the most important things to
understand about its history, especially since 1945? What has
shaped its relations with other countries and what are the main
components of those relations? What are the main issues currently
dominating your topic (i.e., in the news right now)? Your goal for
the essay is to explain to a reader how and why these issues arose
in the decades following WWII. In other words, how did we get to
the present situation? Why is the country what it is today? Your
essay provides the context
for understanding the current issue in greater depth than you would
read in the news articles you have collected.
Again,
imagine you have been contracted to conduct a two-part study
explaining either (1) why a particular problem exists, or (2) the
most important things to know about a particular issue or country.
Ask yourself what the current situation is. Is there a crisis? If
so, what does it consist of and why is it occurring? ]
Basically I need to discuss the most relevant events and realationships to happen in Japan after WW2 and what changes they made on Japan. This is mostly focused under the history of the Cold War so situations and relations that favour explainations leaning towards it’s relevance is probably what they want. But yeah, it’s pretty much just another history essay…
