This is a 4-week assignment with a purpose of allowing students the opportunity to actively engage in the quality improvement process. You will choose something about yourself or the school you would like to improve (for example: sleeping more, studying more, drinking more water, etc.). Students will develop an AIM statement to identify what the proposed improvement is. Following the process for improvement, you will implement PLAN, DO, STUDY, ACT (PDSA) cycles over a consecutive 3-week period. You will record data to measure the change. In the 4th week, you will (1) write a 1-page report to describe the aim of the quality improvement project and actions taken to refine the improvement over the 3-week implementation period and (2) create a graphic to demonstrate the data (run-chart, bar graph, …). Grading for this assignment will not be based on the success of the quality improvement project; it will be graded on the process. The graphic can be created using excel or any other programs.
LATE ASSIGNMENT WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AND EARN A GRADE OF ZERO.
OBJECTIVES: The student learns how to:
• develop an aim statement,
• implement change using the model for improvement (PDSA cycles),
• collect data to measure change/improvement, and
• report data using charts or graphs.
