This assignment is for a detective literature class. There are two prompts below and you will write at least five pages for each prompt. The Font is Times New Roman 12; Margins” Left and right, 1”; Spacing: Double. Note that I can give an extension of 3 days if needed.
Prompt 1: Historically, a rule followed in most detective novels is that “it should contain no long descriptive passages, no literary dallying with side-issues, no subtly worked-out character analyses, no “atmospheric” preoccupations.” However, detective fiction from the period post-1945 seems to increasingly ignore this rule (and it was not always strictly followed earlier). Write an essay in which you defend or attack this rule drawing upon some (not all) of the novels we read, which are: *Agatha Christie, Murder on the Orient Express*, *Ngaio Marsh, Died in the Wool*, *Dorothy Sayers. Prompt 2: All of the eight novels mentioned in Prompt 1 have been made into feature films or television shows. Take AT LEAST TWO of the novels and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of their film versions
