The final exam consists of one essay. The final exam is worth 15 percent of your grade and must be uploaded as a single document to the Dropbox no later than 11 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 19th. I will not accept late papers. The total paper should be 5-6 pages in length (with normal margins, fonts, etc.). Follow the same guidelines you did for Paper 1 in Week 7 in terms of citations, etc.

It’s 2021 and you’re now a 75-year-old baby boomer. But, “in the day” you (born in 1946) were active various movements of the 1960s and 1970s. Following the 1970s, you witnessed startling political transformations between the 1980s-the present (end with 2018).  Explain how and why these transformations happened and what led to the elections of Reagan, Clinton, George W. Bush, Obama, and Trump. How did the United States transform so dramatically (think politically, economically, and culturally) to put Trump in the White House in 2016? In constructing your response, be sure to do/address the following:
Examine your relationship with your parents (born in the 1910s). How did your generation interact with them?
What was your childhood like in the 1950s (be sure to think about the Cold War, polio, etc. in constructing your response and look at the chapters in your textbook about affluence).
What drove your generation to protest in the 1960s/early 1970s?How/why did your generation become so active? What accounts for the rise of each of the protest movements of which you were a part? How and why did each decline?
How did so many people end up voting for Reagan in the 1980s?  Where did the conservative revival come from and what were the various strains of it? 
How did the Democratic Party win back Reagan voters in the 1990s? What were the economic conditions of the decade and how did that effect how people voted?
Be as specific as possible in assessing what happened from the 1990s-2013
How did globalization and the U.S.’s role in the world (both economic and political) shape the world before and after 9/11?
What led many lower and middle class whites to cast their ballots for Trump (think about economic and cultural and geographic changes)?   
You must use at least THREE primary sources in constructing this response.
