Primary Document Question: From the posted primary sources Critically examine the substance and context of these documents, considering the following elements:
Who the author is;
Who the audience is;
What type of document (i.e. public speech, confidential correspondence, etc.) it is;
What the main message of the document is;
What the author’s values or assumptions are (either direct or implied); and
What the historical context of the document is.
Consider what can we learn about the Cold War from these documents?  What questions do they raise?
Secondary Question: What did Americans think to be at stake in the Cold War?  To what extent were their perceptions correct?  And how did American values and its actual practices conform or conflict with one another in this period?
