T‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍his is a PhD literature review for the topic of The Effect of Poor Oral Health on the Physical and Mental Wellbeing of People with Disabilities and their Ability to Access Medicare and NDIS Health Care Services. I am using the biopsychosocial model and its adoption in Dentistry and people with disabilities to drive the paper. I am trying to narrow down the topic to address a specific type of population in which I am thinking about people with mental health concerns. However, I have to state my reasons why I have chosen this population in particular and whether they also have a high intake by the NDIS. I need to very well explain the biopsychosocial model (and its critiques), and b) how it is significant for my research. The aim of this literature review is about drawing it back to my research questions – how does it shape the questions, how does it inform the choice of my methods, how does it help to understand the problem. This has to be very well written and in an analytical way on the philosophical debates around the Biopsychosocial model and its adoption in health, dentistry and mainly for people with disability. This lit review has to answer the following information: First, identify 1. the key theorists that have led the development of the biopsychosocial model and what ‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍is the main philosophy behind it; 2. when it comes about; and the philosophical debates about its strengths, weakness and how it has changed over time. Has it been adopted in oral health and people with disability? If so, what are the implications of it? Why this model is critical for people with disability. Why this model is important for this study which addresses poor oral health and people with disabilities 3. why it was taken up and accepted within academic inquiry as a valid theoretical perspective; This third point should lead through questions such as what fields of disability policy have adopted the biopsychosocial model? what primary areas has it been incorporated into to inform healthcare approaches to persons living with a disability? how has it reframed notions of health and wellbeing of persons with disabilities? why and how have the medical professions taken it up both philosophically and practically within their practice. 4. how all of the above answers will help frame the research questions in the area of oral health care for persons with disabilities and its broader impact on their wellbeing. Please use academic scholarly resources and please reference the content accurately against each article as they will all be read prior to submitting‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍.
