Students will choose from the following topic ideas below to write a four-paragraph argumentative essay using THREE quotes from the novel and THREE quotes from an outside source: ∙ How do Huxley’s female characters reinforce the concept of an idealized women during the 1920’s and 1930’s?
∙ Examine how Huxley’s female characters lose their power as women as they “assume male values.” How do the men lose their power?
∙ Examine how traditional gender roles are altered and re-imagined.
∙ Consider how the novel reflects and reinforces stereotypical views of women (you may want to consider the time period of the 1920’s and 1930’s).
∙ How would this text differ in its portrayal of men and women if it were written by a woman? ESSAY REQUIREMENTS:
⮚ Please include: Introduction Paragraph, Two Precis Paragraphs (three quotes each), Conclusion Paragraph, and a Works Cited Page
⮚ Use three examples (quotes) from Brave New World and three examples (quotes) from at least one outside source
