Remix/Remake
(250 points)
Due: Tuesday, November 23rd
FORMAT: 3-4 pages, MLA formatted, 11-12 point Arial font, works cited list with at least 3 credible sources (not included in page count), +artwork
OBJECTIVE: Select one work of space art from a particular genre, period, or culture, and adapt it using the conventions of another genre, period, or culture (for example, film to painting, or mid-century to Pre-Raphaelite). You will write a supporting essay detailing the characteristics of the original work and its aesthetic-historical-cultural context and comparing the characteristics of your work to the original, explaining why you made the decisions you did based on the aesthetic-historical-cultural characteristics of the genre, period, or culture you chose.
IMPORTANT NOTE: You are not being graded on the quality of your artwork. You are being graded on your ability to research and discuss the original work and to describe the artistic characteristics and formal and generic conventions of both the original work *and* your recreation.
WRITING TASKS: As you prepare your essay, think about the following:
Introduce your original work. What is it called? What form does it take? What genre does it belong to? Who created it? When? Why? Why did you choose it?
Discuss the typical conventions of the form and genre of the original work.
Talk about the creator of the original work. When did they create it? Why and how?
Describe the original work in detail. What does it look like? How was it made? Does it conform to the expected conventions of the form and genre or does it break boundaries? How or why?
Describe your remake/adaptation of the original work. What form and genre did you choose? When was that genre most popular? What are the conventions of the form and genre you chose?
Explain why you made the artistic choices you did given the form and genre you selected. How do they conform (or not conform) to the form and genre you chose?
What did you learn about both the original artwork and your selected form or genre through trying to remake the work?
ASSESSMENT: I will assess your performance based on the assignment rubric posted to Canvas.
TIP: For a successful assignment, make sure to answer *all* of the questions posed in the Writing Tasks section.
I submitted my past assignment so please write essay based on those assignments please. If you have any question, please contact me via email or phone call or message. 386-214-3483 thanks.
